This opera tells the mythological tale of the twin brothers Castor and Pollux, one mortal, the other divine, is presented with the underworld and battle scenes requisite at that time. Opposite the brothers stand the sisters Télaire and Phébé, who are entangled in private strife over their respective loves for Castor and Pollux. Neither love, vengeance nor jealousy form the opera’s core, for Castor and Pollux readiness to abandon happiness for the benefit of the other is the central theme of the opera.
